Garibaldi automates the time consuming task of adding fine details with professional quality fractal noises that can used to add detailed scraggle and frizz to almost any aspect of your garibaldi hair style. Settings

The following describes the various tweak deformers and viewport preview settings for the 'Garibaldi Express' tweak workspace.

Random Length

Using the random length deformer will break up the smooth flat surface that is created when interpolating between styling curves. Hair strands grow at different rates, by using random length an added level of realism will be added to your hair style. The additional use of texture control maps will allow more complex feathering results.

Random Length Deformer Settings.

Max Length

The 'Max Length' setting value is the maximum length in centimetres that a hair strand can be reduced by. The length that each hair strand is reduced by will be a random value between this 'Max Length' value and 0.0.

Max Length = 0.0
Max Length = 2.0
Max Length = 10.0

The optional texture control will multiple the strength of the 'Max Length' settings value.

Scraggle 1/Scraggle 2

The scraggle deformer is the centrepiece of the Tweak workspace and allows many aspects of a hair system to be deformed by high quality fractal noise. By adding noise to various parts of a hair style it allows for visual interest and detail to be quickly added that would take a great deal of time if embarked manually.

The scraggle deformer displaces each vertex of the hair strands an amount along a normal of the hair strand or clump curve at that vertex. This will cause the spacing between the hair strand vertices to remain optimal. The values used to look up a result in a 3D noise field are based on the normal offset projection of current vertex from it's curves base on the characters surface. This results in more realistic displacement values when used in conjunction with large divergence in style curve placement used for interpolation or with clump deformers.

Apply

Scraggle deformation can be applied to a wide range of different curve or hair strands used by Garibaldi for final hair strand generation. By setting the 'Apply' setting to different parts of the garibaldi hair style a multitude of effects can be created.

Clump Curves 1

This will cause the curves generated and used during the 'Clump 1' deformer in the clump workspace to deformed by the srcaggle deformer.

This will cause the hair strands generated from the style workspace interpolation of the style curves before the 'Clump 1' deformer in the clump workspace to deformed by the srcaggle deformer.

Before Clump 2

This will cause the hair strands generated from the 'Clump 1' deformer in the clump workspace before the 'Clump 2' deformer in the clump workspace to deformed by the srcaggle deformer.

Before Frizz

This will cause the hair strands generated from the random length deformer in the tweak workspace before the frizz deformer in the tweak workspace to deformed by the srcaggle deformer.

Strength

The max amount in centimetres that the scraggle can displace a vertex by.

The optional texture control will multiple the strength settings value.

Frequency

The frequency that noise highlights will be created. Higher the value a tighter noise displacement will be generated.

Frequency = 0.5
Frequency = 1.0
Frequency = 2.0

Advanced

These advanced settings control the depth controls of the scraggle deformers noise functions. Adding extra depth (or sometimes referred to Octaves/Dimensions) will add a fractal nature to the noise used for deformation. More depth levels will add more fine detail to noise.

Freq Depth

The amount of depth levels (or sometimes referred to Octaves/Dimensions) added to the noise. Adding more levels will add more subtle details to the noise used for the scraggle deformation.

FreqDepth = 1
FreqDepth = 2
FreqDepth = 3

Freq Ratio

The ratio used to blend each depth level into the final result. Each depth level will use a blend ratio proportionaly smaller than the previous.

Freq Mult

The amount each additional level of noise's frequency will be multiplied from the previous level.

Frizz

Frizz Deformer Settings.

The frizz deformer will add pure random noise to the hair strands. The frizz deformer displaces each vertex of the hair strands a random amount along a normal of the hair strand at that vertex. This will cause the spacing between the hair strand vertices to remain optimal.

The frizz deformer is useful for adding a small level of high frequency noise that breaks up the completely smooth nature of the interpolated hair strands.

Base = 0.0, Tip = 0.0
Base = 0.01, Tip = 0.02
Base = 0.1, Tip = 0.2

Base

The maximum amount in centimetres that the frizz noise can displace the hair strand vertices by at the base. Toward the tip of the hair strand the maximum amount will blend with the tip settings value. Half way up the hair strand the frizz value will be half way between the Base and Tip settings value.

The optional texture control will multiple the strength of the 'Base' settings value.

Base = 0.4 with control texture, Tip = 0.0

Tip

The maximum amount in centimetres that the frizz noise can displace the hair strand vertices by at the tip. Toward the base of the hair strand the maximum amount will blend with the base settings value. Half way up the hair strand the frizz value will be half way between the Base and Tip settings value.

The optional texture control will multiple the strength of the 'Tip' settings value.

Preview

Generic hair preview settings are provided.

Preview Settings.

Show All Meshes

Show all surface meshes contained in a character if used to spawn hair or not.

Show All Meshes = Inactive
Show All Meshes = Active

Show Hair

Shows a preview of the generated hair strands after the clump deformers are applied.

Show Hair With Widths

Shows a preview of the generated hair strands with accurate widths after the clump deformers are applied. This requires more system and graphics memory and may be slow with older graphics cards.

Amount

This percentage setting changes the amount of hair strands previewed. The hair strand width used for preview will also be inversely updated based on this percentage setting. Showing more hair strands will require more time to process and more memory to store the results, displaying more hair strands of complex hair styles is not recommend for older systems.

Use Preview Hair Colour

Switches between showing a preview hair strands with the optimal preview colouring and the unshaded colours used during rendering with 3Delight by the Garibaldi Express Material.
